          WHAT IS AYURVEDA

Ayurveda is one of the most ancient sciences of life, heritage of ancient India to the mankind. It is originated from Vedas, the oldest recorded wisdom on the earth (6000B. C.)The term Ayurveda is composed of two words i.e.

             Ayu      -     Life             &

             Veda     -     Knowledge/Science

Indicates that the science –Ayurveda deals with the descriptions of the “Knowledge of Life “The significant objectives of Ayurveda are to

*Maintain the positive health in healthy

*eradicate diseases in diseased.

Preferences have been given in maintenance of sound health and achievement of a long disease free life for salvation.

                                    ORIGIN OF AYURVEDA

According to legends, the science has a divine origin, as Brahma being the creator memorized Ayurveda, passed the knowledge to his disciples and in further order the science was transmitted to the ancient pioneers of Ayurveda through sage bharadwaja. These are only legendary stories however the recorded knowledge indicates that, Ayurveda may be traced first to Rig-Veda &then to Atharva Veda and then got rationalized based on the experience of all the sages assembling at the mountains of Himalayas from time to time.

           MAJOR CLASSICS OF AYURVEDA

Ayurveda is survived through many ancient tesxt, but TWO SETS of original authentic texts constitute a major part.

They are:

* Brihattrayi  i.e. the three major classics-   * Laghutrayi i.e. the three major classics-

1. Charak Samhita (600 B. C.)                        1. Madhava  Nidana (700 A. D.)

2. Sushruta Samhita (500B. C.)                       2. Sarangadhara Samhita (1300A. D.)

3. Ashtanga Hirday(600B.C.)                          3. Bhava Prakasha (1600A. D.)

      THE STRENGHTH OF AYURVEDA :

Pancha Maha Bhuta Theory :

The universe, according to Ayurveda is composed of five basic elements the pancha Mahabhootas, namely Prithvi (earth),Apya (water),Teja (fire), Vayu (air) and Akasha (earth). As the human body is similarly constituted, there is a fundamental harmony between unverse and man, a healthy balance between the microcosm and the microcosm.

        TRIDOSHA & SAPTA DHATU THEORY:

Ayurveda believes in the theory of tridosha i. e. Vata, Pitta & Kapha (Bodily humours) theory of Saptadatu i.e. Bodily tissues like Rasa (body fluids),Rakta (blood ),Mamsa (muscles), Medas (fat), Ashi (bones & joints ), Majja (bone marrow), Sukra (semen) and ojas(vital essence) and theory of Trimalas i.e. excretory materials like Mutra (Urine),Pureesha (faeces) and Sveda (sweat). The balanced state of all these factors is called health and when this balance is distributed it results in to a disease.

       SPECIALIZED BRANCHES THE ASTANGAS:

Ayurveda advocates a complete health preservative, promotive, disease preventive and curative system of medicine through its eight major clinical specialties namely (1)Kayachikitsa (Internal Medicine), (2) Shalya Tantra (Surgery), (3)Shalakya (Disease of eye, ENT & dentistry), (4) Kaumarabhritya (5) Bhutavidya (Psychiatry), (6) Agada Tantra (Toxicology), (7) Rasayana tantra (Nutrition, Rejuvenation and geriatrics), (8) Vajikarana (Science of Aphrodisiacs).

CONCEPTS OF SWASTHA VRITTA                      CONDUCT FOR SOUND HEALTH ).

The Ayurvedic texts describe a comprehensive schedule of health regimen for preservation of health popularly known as ‘swasthvritta’. Details about life style. Diet, exercise, sleep, sexual activity, Personal and social hygiene, ethical principles, mental exercise, spiritual activities have been exhaustively described under this heading.

It has been  mentioned  in this context that “person who lives voluntarily on the scientific lines of Swastha vritta never faced troubles in his life”.

      PANCHAKARMA:

It is a body cleansing therapy advocated for the radical elimination of disease causing factors &promotion of positive health by rejuvenating the vital body systems.

As the name itself indicates it consist of Pancha or five main procedures. They are.

Vamana                      -         Emesis.

Virechana                   -         Therapeutic Purgation.

Vasti                           -         Enemata .

Nasya                         -          Trans Mucosal Administrations.

Rakta moksana          -           Blood letting procedures.

    METHODS OF INVESTIGATION IN AYURVEDA

The diagnosis in Ayurvedic  medicine is based on two-fold approach to diagnostics viz.

(1) Examination of the patient i.e. rogi-pariksa;

(2) examination of the disease i.e. roga –pariksa,

Rogi-pariksa is essentially concerned with ascertaining the constitution of the individual and status of health and vitality .This is achieved through ten-fold methodology (Dasavidha pariksa)compactness of (1) Prakriti (constitution), (2) Vikriti (disease susceptibility),(3) sara (quality of tissues),(4)Samhanana (compactness of the body ),(5)Pramana (anthropometry ), (6)Satmaya (adapability), (7) Vyayama sakti (mental stamina), (8) Ahara sakti (digestive power), (9) Vyayama sakti (physical strength ),(10) vaya (age and rate of aging).

The general examination is made through popular eight –fold examination (Astaidha Pariksha)comprising examination of Nadi [Pulse],Mutra [Urine],Mala [stools],Jihva [Tongue], Sabda [Voice], Sparsa [Touch / Skin], drin [Eye examination]and Akriti [Condition of the body] and also considering the state of body channels (Srotas pariksa) and Agni (status of digestive power).

        MERITS OF AYURVEDA :

  • Primary concentration is given towards the Preventive aspects rather than curative aspects.
  • Priciples of treatment are in conformity with the nature’s laws.
  • Concentrates on restoring the normal balance in between bodily humors, Panchamahabhutas and mind .
  • Adopts an individualistic and holistic approach towards the sick.
  • The drugs are prepared from natural sources hence, compatible to the body and minimal adverse effects.

        CONCLUSIONS

With the tremendous expansion in the use of Ayurveda worldwide ,it has not only to continued to continued to continued to be used for primary health care in developing contries, but has also been used in countries where conventional , medicine in predominatant in the national health care system . About us
This clinic started in April 2006 at Indore (m.p) with a motto in mind “HEALTHY HEALING FOR BETTER LIFE”. Just after completing our graduation from Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune I and my wife Dr. Nidhi planned to start pure Ayurvedic practice. After looking prospects of all the cities we decided to settle in Indore. Now there was a big task to get the right place to start with. So for the time being we joined an Ayurvedic college as a guest lecturer and side by side we found a place to practice and settled it slowly.
Initial time was tough as we have to find our identity at a completely new place and even though people reacted like”oh! You are so young to be in Ayurvedic practice”. But slowly our work came into play and our patients increased day by day. As the time passed we felt that we should go to the main market area where it will be easier to approach us. Than we shifted to our new premises incorporating more facilities in Indian system of treatment.
Here we are successfully running our clinic for near about 3 years with more than 300 patients treated and now no body ask for our experience.

Services

  1. Ayurved
  2. Panchkarma
  3. Yoga
  4. Acupressure
  5. Magneto-therapy
  6. Aromatherapy
  7. Dieting
  8. Psychological counseling
  9. Hair and Skin care/ treatment

AYURVED – It is a complete science with is not slow in action, instead it uproots the disease if take complete course. Now a days its medicine is available in all possible forms like tablets, capsule, ointment, syrup, etc (except injectables). Ayurved has its own staging system for different diseases which provide prognosis of the patients. Since it is a “tailor-made” medicine system it cures the patient not the disease.

PANCHKARMA – It is the most important part of Ayurvedic treatment for which the bottom line is – it is basically a detoxification therapy (toxins in terms of Ayurved). The toxins accumulated over years together due to our life style should be eliminated for the new energy and it also hastens the action of Ayurvedic medicine. Thus the effectiveness of medicine is visible in just 7 days of starting treatment even in chronic diseases like high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, acidity, menstrual disorders, etc. this therapy is safe to administer in children as well as for oldies.
Panchkarma therapies include 5 basic types of treatment out of which doctor decide one which will be suitable for the person. After this treatment ‘Rasayana’ treatment (Rejuvenating) and ‘Vajikarna’ treatment (increasing sexual power) should be taken to get full benefits of medicine

Ø  Vamana - a process in which “kapha” is eliminated from mouth.
Ø  Virechana - a process in which “pitta” is eliminated from anus.
Ø  Basti - a process in which “vata” is eliminated from anus
Ø  Nasya - a process in which “dosha of head” is eliminated from nose.
Ø  Rakthmokshna - a process in which “dosha of blood” is eliminated from body.

YOGA – The basic difference in yoga vs. exercise is that in exercise, one draws out energy from body where as in yoga one feels full of energy even after long session. If one feel otherwise he/ she is not doing it right. Now as there is numerous type of “yoga” in the market and every teacher has its own method of teaching as well as own forms of asana and pranayam. The basic and original principals of yoga should be maintained.
At my level I have coined “ corporate yoga” as the name suggest it is form of yoga which can be done in office while sitting on chair and even without hampering ones work.
BENEFITS OF CORPORATE YOGA                          DISEASES CAUSED BY LONG
                                                                                                          HOURS OF SITTING
1.      Can be done while sitting on chair at office                                                                                                                                                                                                  Obesity
2.      Extra time/ place not required                                                                                                                                                                                                               Constipation
3.      Empty stomach not necessary                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Indigestion
4.      maintains health & rejuvenates all body parts                                                                                                                                                                                              Less alertness,                                                                                                                  Eye power diminishes,                                                                                                                   Eye muscle weakness
5.      Increases alertness of work i.e. less fatigue more work output                                                                                                                                                      Backache, Neck stiffness

ACUPRESSURE – Pressure is applied on the site of imbalance energy which causes disease according to the philosophy. It is very effective in acute pain and swelling. If the disease is from short duration time required to treat from acupressure therapy is short and long time is needed for chronic disease. Thus is a very effective tool if down along with other system of medicine.

MAGNETO THERAPY – It is same for this therapy as for acupressure. Here magnets of different power are utilized to treat diseases. Magnetized water is also advised along with this therapy. Different forms of belts with magnet in them are also available in market which claims to cure but effective ness of those is doubtful.
Aromatherapy – It is treatment mainly based on different types of essential oils. This aroma oil can be used in and as BATHS, INHALATION, COMPRESSES, AIR FRESHENERS, foot soak, VACUUM, LAUNDRY, etc. these aroma oils should be used with precautions as it is inflammable. They are best for treating skin problems.
Dieting – It does not mean that you have to go on fast, dieting is just regularizing the way and type of food you eat. Ayurvedic dieting does not keep “calorie frame” in mind instead it uses the “dosha & dhatu” parameters. It all together a different way of dieting.
Psychological counseling – All of the diseases to human being have more than 60% of factor involved. So treatment of psychology in necessary with all type of patients. According to Ayurvedic philosophy every action is governed by “mana” so treatment of this element is necessary to eradicate the root of disease.
Hair & Skin care / Treatment – this treatment involves following
SHIRO DHARA
NETRA TARPAN
PICHU
GANDUSH
BASTI
SWEDAN
NASYA
UDVARTAN
ABHYANG
FACIAL YOGA
SWEDAN

LEPA

These are all part of panchkarma treatment along with aroma oil.

ayurved do belive in rebirths. it says

every persons age is defined in  number of karmas he/she has to do in one life. when this numbers are not completed one has to take rebirth to complete the remaining task.
